Mera Peak October 2022

Written by Leader James Holding (Jamie), January 2023

"Packed at last, after nearly 3 years of waiting. Bob, Callum, pocket Guide, Rob, Fiona, Alex and Geljin. With the airstrip at Lukla socked in, and hundreds waiting for flights, Shiv came up with Plan B. A mini adventure of a day’s drive to Soleri, followed by a 5 hour 4WD journey to Khare Khola. Here we met the porter gang and had an afternoon stroll to Pangom 2900m, keeping us on schedule. A misty and damp start to the trek, consoled that we were on track and beginning to acclimatise. A visit to Takshindu monastery, with chanted morning prayers emanating from within, seemed to add to the gravity of climbing up to the Pangom La 3174m, with a steep and relentless descent to the Hinku Khola. Climbing up the valley’s east side, we arrived in Nashingdingma just before dark."
