Adventurous trekking in Colombia's superb National Parks, coffee farms and the famous Lost City Trek

Introduction

Our Colombia Explorer trip starts in Bogota from where you'll visit Chingaza National Park and trek through the "paramo" to sacred lakes. After returning to Bogota, you'll then drive to and trek across the Central Andes with highlights including hiking through wax palm forests, before arriving in the coffee region town of Salento. You'll then fly to Santa Marta to start the multi-day Lost City Trek deep in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains. This portion of the trip includes encounters with Kogi and Wiwa Indigenous communities and culminates in a visit to the ancient ruins of Ciudad Perdida. Finally, you travel to Tayrona National Park for a rest day and a coastal hike that includes a cultural visit to the Tayku Kogi settlement and stunning Caribbean beaches.

Jagged Globe has been running expeditions and treks to Colombia since 2011 and overall, we consider this to be the 'ultimate' Colombia trekking trip - varied and interesting, taking in most of the highlights.

What to expect

The Colombia Explorer trek is graded T2. You need to be comfortable walking for up to 10 hours - please see the amount of ascent / descent and trekking duration for each day in the day-to-day itinerary. Given the remote location and the fact that some of the trails are rarely hiked, you should expect some rough ground underfoot, as well as some boggy areas.

With Flight pricing

Our 'With Flight' price includes an Economy class return airfare from the UK. The cost is based on a group fare that we have already reserved, or individual seats that we have budgeted for. Note that in some circumstances, the earlier you book, the less expensive the airfare and the 'With Flight' price.

Typical Itinerary

Day 1:	Fly to Bogota Evening flight from London Heathrow.
Day 2:	Arrive Bogota Early morning arrival. Overnight hotel.
Day 3:	Bogota - Full day city tour & hike down from Monserrate Overnight hotel.
Day 4:	Trekking: Chingaza National Park - Trek to Siecha Lakes (3,620 m) Return to Bogota. Overnight hotel.
Day 5:	Bogota - Ibague - Juntas (1,850m) Drive to the Magdalena River Valley, then south to the city of Ibague, the capital of Tolima state. Continue to via the Combeima River Valley to the settlement of Juntas. Overnight hotel.
Day 6:	Trekking: Juntas (1,850m) - Alto del Oso Mountain pass (2,850m) - "La Florida" farm (2,010m)
Day 7:	Trekking: "La Florida" farm (2,010m) - Toche town (2,000m)
Day 8:	Hike in the Wax Palm Forest (2,940m) - "La Leona" Farm (2,899m)
Day 9:	Hike through La Carbonera Forest - Drive to "El Rocio" Refuge (3,050m) - Hike to Salento town (1,919m)
Day 10:	Coffee tour - Transfer out to Armenia/Pereira Fly to Santa Marta via Bogota.
Day 11:	Lost City - Trekking: "Donde Adan" lodge (480m) Begin the trek to the Lost City.
Day 12:	Trekking: "Paso Lorenzo" lodge (806m)
Day 13:	Trekking: Lost City (1,175m)
Day 14:	Trekking: El Mamey (150m) - End of trek - Tayrona Park Area
Day 15:	Rest day
Day 16:	Tayrona National Park: Tayku Kogi settlement & hike along the park's coastline
Day 17:	Departure - Transfer out to Santa Marta's airport (1h). Depart Bogata Fly home.
Day 18:	Arrive London
