Aconcagua - 26 January to 18 February 2003
Written by Leader Mark Skelton, March 2003
The Aconcagua team arrived at base camp during a period of settled weather. With only a little snow on the mountain, the team were hopeful and spirits were high. Two members of the small team unfortunately had to turn back early from base camp, leaving only the UK leader and three others. All the remaining members reached the Berlin camp at 5,900m
On summit day a further member opted to stay at Berlin camp, as he had not acclimitised sufficiently for a realistic attempt. Jason Williamson was going strong but suddenly ran out of steam on the Canaleta, leaving only the UK leader, Mark Skelton and Bob Haskins to summit.« Previous report | Next report »
