Gasherbrum II 2025

Written by Leader James Holding (Jamie), August 2025

Down and out on Gasherbrum II

"Trekking up the Baltoro glacier from Askole, we camped at Urdukas, where, sunshine through the rain, we glimpsed the elusive Trango Towers. On the Nameless Tower, Wolfgang Gullich and Kurt Albert established a climb in 1989 they called Eternal Flame, setting new standards for rock climbing at higher altitudes. Their inspiration for the name came from a song by The Bangles, with individual climbing sections identified by the song’s lyrics."
