Aconcagua - 17 December 2002 to 9 January 2003
Written by Leader Sarah Nuttall, February 2003
The weather this season on Aconcagua has been exceptionally cold and when the Aconcagua IV team arrived in base camp, there had already been some severe storms with high winds and very low temperatures. Despite all the early days on the mountain being made more physically demanding due to these conditions, seven members reached Berlin camp. A forecasted window in the weather led to a summit attempt being made the following day, however temperatures of minus 15 Celcius within the tents meant that many of the team had a poor night leading to five members deciding to turn back on summit day. Two members reached the Canaleta accompanied by expedition leader, Sarah Nuttall and guide, Lucas Dauria. From this point, one member descended with Sarah, whilst the other carried on to the summit with Lucas.« Previous report | Next report »
