Mera Peak - 1 to 24 Apr '05
Written by Leader Chris Groves, April 2005
At 04:30am on April 16th the team left Mera Peak high camp (5,800m) in excellent conditions after a blustery night. Making good time, everyone enjoyed the emerging views as the sun rose. Making use of the fixed rope, the whole team reached the central summit of Mera Peak 6(,461m) by 08:30am and enjoyed the truly stunning views of Everest and the high Hymalaya.
The summiteers were; Joe , Russel , Steve , Ben and Scott, plus climbing Sherpa Dawa (his 25th ascent), and leader Chris Groves (previously James had decided to leave the expedtion)
The expedition got off to a fantastic start with on time flights and no excess baggage charges, though we did expereince snow on our first day's trekking. Due to snow conditions, our approach varied from the planned itinery following the eastern side of the Hinku valley, this provided the team with good views of our objective and and early introduction to waist deep snow!
The team made excellent progress and enjoyed great conditions throughout. A good sense of team spirit and quality local staff meant not only was this a successful trip but also a very enjoyable one as well.
Chris Groves, expedition leader
