Mera Peak 5 - 28 April 2002

Written by Leader Adele Pennington, April 2002

An outstandingly enjoyable and successful expedition that enabled all 9 members of the party to experience the marvellous views from the summit of Mera Peak (6,476m). A tricky crevasse just below the top added extra challenge as the team members ascended a fixed rope and abseiled from the summit. The success of this expedition was due in to excellent team spirit and a well-conceived acclimitisation.

Email from team member:

"Dear Simon,

I wish to complain about the trip to Mera Peak (from 5th to 28th April 2002) from which I have just returned. Nowhere in your brochure, website or even during the pre-expedition weekend, was mentioned the fact that such a trip could very quickly become addictive. Indeed, having been back for only a couple of weeks, the only thing on my mind is to go again!

I do believe that clients should be warned of such side effects prior to joining an expedition.

I believe the reason for such enthusiasm on my part regarding this expedition is simply the quality of the trip and leadership we received. Not only is Nepal a fantastic country, but the whole organisation and support were simply outstanding.

Thanks to Adele Pennington, our leader, I have spent a most fantastic time on the mountain. < Permission to insert finger in throat at this point? >

Very professional and outgoing, Adele straight away made us feel confident, and comfortable not only with her but with one another. These qualities of hers made us feel from Day 1 part of a strong, close and supportive team. Results : ALL members made it to the summit. A 100% success to Adele's credit! On this trip she was not only our leader, but many times a patient, enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor, always happy to teach us climbing techniques even if they weren't required on this particular trip.

Needless to add that I have thoroughly enjoyed this trip and am hoping to do many more. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole Jagged Globe team for making it happen and a special thank you to Adele for my most brilliant mountaineering experience.

Kind Regards
CC and RH

PS: Adele only had to pay me 20 for this!"
