Himlung Himal 2024 report

“It’s the climb.” Miley Cyrus

“What you think largely determines what you will ultimately become.” Bruce Lee

August 16th, three days before my birthday, and 48 days before we were due to head out to Nepal, I went flying down the road to Llandyrnog, on my road bike, racing round a lap of Moel Famau. I was in good shape off the back of a month in the Alps and a visit to the Pyrenees. Solo ascents of the Dom 4545m and Mont Blanc 4808m, a lone climb of the Sud-kante on the Jegihorn 3206m, and a ride of the infamous ‘Circle of Death’, Laruns to Luchon, over five cols, including the Col du Tourmalet 2115m, seemed like a good foundation of fitness for an autumn in Nepal.
