Mera Peak - 2 to 25 April

Written by Leader, April 2004

This expedition's success was down to strong teamwork and excellent local staff. This was particularly evident when one team member had to be assisted down on Day 7. Upon landing in Lukla the team enjoyed the villagers' celebrations for a visiting Lama and then started trekking towards Mera Peak. Due to fresh snow on the walk-in, an alternative route along the ridge north of Pankongma La was used but still affording proper acclimatisation.

On a cold and windy summit morning four team members made the top of Mera Peak with three others making a great effort to reach 6,100m. One team member opted to stay at high camp (5,800m).

Back in Kathmandu, the team had a joint expedition dinner with a Khumbu Climber team at the famous Rum Doodle restaurant.
