Mera Peak 20 April to 13 May 2001
Written by Leader Javier Herrera, May 2001
It has been a few days without writing my diary. Well, the cold, and the altitude makes it some times a bit dificult. Yes, on May 5th at 8:00 a.m. 4 team members, our Sidar and I reached the summit of Mera Peak 6,476m. During our first attempt, the wind and the cold made us retreat to our high camp at 5,400m. After a few hours of rest we thought - why not to try again?. We had time, food, energy and I thought that the weather would improve. I read a quote to the team:
"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it however" from Richard Bach.
"Second attempts bring more pleasure if they succeed!" I said. We went again and succeded! From the summit we could not believe what we saw, there they were, all the mountains of the Everest region incluiding Lohtse and Ama Dablan on a very clear day.
"A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such speed. It feels an impuse...this is the place to go now. But the sky knows the reasons and the patterns behind all the clouds, and you will know too, when you lift yourself high enough beyond the horizons." R Bach
It was my first time on Mera and I never imagined that it would be so awesome!
