Mera Peak - 8 - 31 Oct '04
Written by Leader Mac Mackay, October 2004
The expedition arrived in Kathmandu to be met by the end of the monsoon period but managed to fly to Lukla as planned. The first week made for some wet trekking as the monsoon played itself out. By the time the expedition reached the Hinku valley, the weather began to stabilise and high pressure set in. After enjoying many days of excellent weather all the members; Laurie Dowell, Richard Heaton, David Kitson, Bradley Knowlton, Matt Malone, Andy Robbins, Ellie Smith and leader, Mac MacKay summited Mers Peak (6,476m) at approximately 9am on 22 Oct 2004 in clear, cold, sunny conditions, experiencing stunning views of the high Himalaya and Everest in its majestic glory. The team encountered new snow and very cold, windy conditions on the summit climb and are now back in Kathmandu.« Previous report | Next report »
